At SAB Supply, we provide professional-grade props that are fully compliant with BS4074 standards. Featuring high-carbon steel tubing and heavy-duty pins, our props offer the reliability required for high-stakes construction environments.
Technical Specifications: Size & Load Capacity Guide
Selecting the correct size is critical for safety. While these props are adjustable, their Safe Working Load (SWL) changes based on how far they are extended.
| Size | Closed Height | Extended Height | Approx. Weight | Safe Working Load (SWL) |
| Size 0 | 1.00m | 1.80m | 13.5kg | Up to 35kN (approx. 3.5 Tons) |
| Size 1 | 1.65m | 2.85m | 18.0kg | Up to 25kN |
| Size 2 | 1.80m | 3.00m | 20.0kg | Up to 20kN |
| Size 3 | 2.60m | 3.90m | 22.5kg | Up to 15kN |
| Size 4 | 3.20m | 4.90m | 26.5kg | Up to 10kN |
Note: Load capacities are approximate and decrease as the prop is extended. Always consult a structural engineer for specific site requirements.
Equipment Safety & Usage FAQ
How many Acrow Props do I need per metre?
The spacing of props depends entirely on the weight of the load being supported (e.g., a brick wall vs. a concrete floor). However, as a general rule for standard masonry work, props are typically spaced every 600mm to 900mm. Always verify this with your structural calculations.
What is the difference between a "Prop" and a "Strongboy"?
An Acrow Prop provides vertical support. A Strongboy attachment is a specialized blade that fits onto the top of the prop, allowing you to support a wall from one side while removing masonry underneath (essential for fitting lintels or RSJs).
Can Acrow Props be used horizontally?
No. Acrow props are designed specifically for vertical axial compression. Using them horizontally as "shoring" or "bracing" is unsafe and can lead to structural failure.
How do I ensure the prop is secure?
Ensure the prop is perfectly vertical (use a spirit level) and placed on a stable, level surface. If the ground is soft, always use a sole board (a thick timber plank) to spread the weight and prevent the prop from sinking.
Essential Lintel Installation Kit
Working on masonry or fitting an RSJ? A standard prop cannot reach into a mortar joint on its own. To safely support a wall while removing bricks, you must use a Strongboy Prop Attachment.
Pairing your Acrow Props with Strongboys allows for a "clean" installation of lintels without the need for extensive shoring on both sides of the wall.

At SAB Supply, we strive to make the delivery and collection process as smooth and efficient as possible. Here’s everything you need to know about how it works:
Delivery Process:
- Selecting Your Delivery Date: When placing your order, you’ll choose a requested delivery date at checkout. Delivery and Collection is £12.50 each way anywhere in the UK.
- Local Delivery: Once your order is placed, we arrange it with the closest local depot that has stock available for your chosen date.
Day of Delivery:
- Delivery Location: All deliveries are kerbside only. Drivers are not permitted to enter properties or back gardens for insurance reasons; however, they can deliver to a driveway or front garden.
- Signing for Delivery: Someone must be present to sign for the delivery, as drivers are unable to leave the equipment without a signature.
Collection Process:
- Hire Period End: The day before your hire period ends, we will contact you to confirm if you’re ready for collection or need to extend the hire.
- Arranging Collection: If collection is required, we’ll notify your local depot, who will aim to collect the next day. Delays are always a possibility and may occur due to busy schedules, traffic issues or driver absence.
- Responsibility for Equipment: Please note that the equipment remains your responsibility until it is collected.
- Collection Location: As with deliveries, all collections must be kerbside. Drivers cannot enter properties or back gardens to retrieve equipment in case they damage anything whilst transporting the kit back and forth.
Abortive Transport Charges:
If a delivery or collection cannot be completed due to the following reasons, we must apply an abortive transport charge of £12.50 + VAT (£15):
- Nobody is available to sign for the delivery or collection.
- The driver is unable to contact you via phone.
- The equipment is not kerbside and accessible for collection.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation to ensure a smooth process for both deliveries and collections. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact our team for assistance!
