Typically Hired With
Our Strongboy Prop Hire (also known as a "Strong Boy") provides the ultimate structural solution for supporting brickwork and masonry during the installation of lintels, beams, or RSJs. Designed for heavy-duty trade use, the Strongboy allows you to support a wall from a single side, leaving you with a clear workspace to remove masonry and install structural steel.
By hammering the forged steel blade into a raked mortar joint, you create a secure bearing point that transfers the load directly through an Acrow Prop to the ground.

Equipment Safety & Installation FAQ
How many Strongboys do I need for my project?
The number of Strongboys required depends on the span of the opening and the load of the wall above. As a general rule of thumb, Strongboys are usually spaced at maximum 900mm centers. Always consult a structural engineer's calculations before beginning a knock-through.
Do I need an Acrow Prop to use a Strongboy?
Yes. A Strongboy is an attachment, not a standalone support. It must be fitted onto the top plate of a standard Acrow Prop. If you do not have props on-site, you can hire Acrow Props here to complete your setup.
Can I use a Strongboy on both sides of the wall?
No. The primary advantage of a Strongboy is that it supports the wall from one side only. This is ideal for projects where access to the other side of the wall is restricted or where you need a clear working area to maneuver an RSJ into place.

What is the correct way to install a Strongboy?
Rake out the mortar joint at the required height. - Hammer the Strongboy blade into the joint until it is fully inserted.
- Position your Acrow Prop underneath the Strongboy and tighten until the blade is firmly supporting the masonry.
- Ensure the prop is perfectly vertical (plumb) before removing any brickwork.
The Professional Lintel Installation Kit
Structural safety is non-negotiable. To ensure a successful installation, we recommend the following "Support Hub" setup:
- Acrow Prop Hire: The essential vertical support for your Strongboy.
- Scaffold Tower Hire: For safe access when working at height to install heavy RSJs or beams.
- Genie Lift Hire: To mechanically lift heavy steel lintels into position once the Strongboys have secured the wall.
